is vision therapy needed for my child or me?During a routine eye exam, Dr. Ni checks visual acuity (your ability to read letters on an eye chart), binocular vision efficiency (your ability to use both eyes together as a team), and ocular health. This testing includes the use of eye drops to dilate your pupils and will take approximately one hour. (See eyecare services for more information). Dr. Ni may at that time recommend some eye exercises that you can do at home or in the office to improve your focusing ability. She may also recommend more detailed testing, called visual perception testing, which will allow her to determine if the brain is processing visual input correctly. This series of tests often resembles IQ testing (but is different in many ways) and will take approximately one hour. If a problem is found, Dr. Ni will usually prescribe a series of in-office vision therapy exercises to reduce or eliminate the problem. Depending on the nature of the disorder and the extent of the problem, the prognosis will vary. |
